../ The Napster Strikes Back!Shawn Fanning, developer of the original Napster Peer-To-Peer (P2P) file trading software that led to the global explosion of copyright infringment, not to mention dozens of lawsuits, is back with a new legal P2P venture dubbed Snocap.Details about the new venture are sketchy at the moment, but Universal has already signed a deal to license 150,000 songs for the new service which signifies how far the majors have come since Fanning created a music trading revolution with the original Napster. Fanning's new service reportedly will have technology to filter out illicit copies of songs and will most likely utilize low quality songs for "free" trading. When a customer decides that they would like to "upgrade" to a higher quality version, they will be directed to an online store. The Future: The premise sounds solid: Create a P2P service that feels free, but has the ability for a user to purchase quality versions. This allows the "try before you buy" scenario to be fully realized. However, many teenagers have clearly demonstrated that quality is much less important than free.
